Help needed!
In a written exercise a student of mine wrote the following: ´we try to be as more trendy as we can ´. At first I changed it to ´(...) as trendy as we can ´, but I realized then that she meant something a bit different. Is it possible to say ´(...)as trendiest as we can ´ ?

The expressions as trendy as we can or as trendy as possible are a kind of simile. Similes which use the as ......... as structure don ´t normally use the comparative or superlative forms of adjectives (er, est, more, most) because a simile is a comparative in itself and there is no need to repeat. |
