Just a question

Hi everyone,

What s the correct answer to this question?:

What s your favourite pet?

1. Dogs are my favourite pet/s.
2. The dog is my favourite pet.

Thanks in advance.

Big hugs,
Choli

I d say,
- grammaticaly, it s the 2nd one, because, it takes up the grammatical subject of the question
- but semanticaly, both are correct.

Hope I helped. :-)

(1) Dogs are my favourite pets becuase I don t like cats.

(2) out of all the pets we have/I have in the house, the dog is my favourite pet.

so both of these are ok but depending on the sentence or question.

Redbull gives you wings you know Wink.

If you re speaking in general of all dogs, use the plural.  Using the singular is effective communication, but sounds non native (not that there s anything wrong with that).
