Gormandize=to eat like is the last meal ever, to enjoy eating a lot

I think this one is easy as we have this word in Romanian too. And it is quite used. 

Is the etymon of this word French?

Well, a "gormless person" (excuse spelling!!!)  is a nerd or a geek, so gormandize must mean to turn somone into a geek, or become a geek!

Aren �t they the opposite? I�m puzzled...
... a gormless person is a dimwit, stupid, dull etc. A nerd is a smart person, a brainbox academically clever, as is a geek, though they tend to be more obsessive.
