I have a doubt regarding a simple sentence. Which one of these sentences is correct?
I have a headache.
or
I ve got a headache.
If both are correct which one you d prefer to use and why?
What about other health problems, e.g. stomach ache, flu, cough, etc.
Is it I have... or I ve got...
Thanks a lot,
Zulia

Hi, Zulia,
The choice has nothing to do with the direct object of the sentence. In the US, "I have..." is more common. In British English, "I ve got..." is more common. It s as simple as that.

US:
I have a car.
I have a headache.
I have a green shirt.

British:
I ve got a car.
I ve got a headache.
I ve got a green shirt.

However, in American English, we do sometimes say, "I ve got a headache," especially if the headache is very bad, e.g., "I ve got such a bad headache I can t think straight." It may depend on the dialect of American English, too. I come from the South; I don t know where vanagator is from.
