Word of the Day (from Wednesday)- answer and winner

Looks like we re going to have to revert to Wednesday s game (sorry, lockman, but where are you?).

If you recall, the word was SNOWCLONE. See here and here for assorted definitions.

Anyway, the term snowclone refers to a sort of trope or phrasal template like   X is the new Y (as in ESLprintables is the new rock n roll etc.). It originated in the old canard that eskimos have n words for snow .

After due consideration, I reckon that edrodmedina gave the classiest (completely wrong, but oh, so believable) definition:

As everyone knows no two snowflakes are the same, that is until now. The great world renown German scientist Dr. Fingleheimer had been working on a snow making machine on behalf of the Olympic committee and came upon a way to duplicate exact replicas of snowflakes which make for a consistent  conditions on the slopes thus leveling the playing field and that s how we now have snowclones.

Step up, Ed!
