I would be so grateful if you could help find a play to my 11th graders. they re going to perform in a national competition, and I m so nervous about it. I d appreciate you suggestions and ideas.

There is this play where a graduate comes to his school demanding his fee back because he did not get a job... the headmaster calls for a meeting of all the teachers for this purpose. the maths teacher gives an idea of retesting him on the skills and subjects he learnt in the school where he is assessed upon. if the students fails to answer the questions in the test, the money is supposed to be refunded.
The headmaster convinces the student to take the test. the student agrees upon it preparing to answer wrong to all the questions.
The teacher on the other side plan to turn whatever he answer into right answer so that they could save the school.
test goes on in all the subjects and the teacher win the show. [ when the student refuses to sit.. the teachers add points for showing the respect and so on.]
in the end the math teacher puts his/her question and the first two questions which are very simple and easy are answered wrong by the student. so the path teacher asks the student the fee that is totally due to him.
the students then correctly calculates his fees right from kindergarten to 12 class and gives the correct answer for which he is graded A+ and no fee is refunded.
this is the gist of the play. you can write dialogs to it.
it is humerous and interesting concept

Dear Ikram.
The example given by Prabhaavathi Ayyagari is useful and interesting. But if you want to get more ideas you can specify the topics and give more details about what kind of plays you re looking for.
Wish you all the best. |

Hi Missiky, here are some sites Ive bookmarked ... mostly the tips came from this site, actually ;):
http://www.kidsinco.com/ (- thats yours, Ed! ;) http://www.teachingheart.net/readerstheater.htm http://plays.about.com/od/plays/tp/freeplays.htm http://freedrama.net/troy.html http://www.lazybeescripts.co.uk/YouthTheatre/Index.htm
I havent really studied them too well myself, so I cant vouch for their quality... :)
My students acted out "The Ticket Collector" many years ago, its a very short play about a man without a ticket on a train - its rather easy to learn and funny, but only a few minutes... If it would help, I could scan the script and send it by e-mail - send a pm, if so :).
All the best, Elisabeth.
