Is or Are?

Hi,

I feel quite stupid by asking the following question, but my brain went probably on a vacation so I have to ask for help. Embarrassed

I m creating a quiz about places in London but I am not sure which sentence is right. Could someone help, please?

How many lines is there in London Underground?
or
How many lines are there in L.U.?

Thanks a lot for your help, Michaela Hug

now I have another doubt, i don t know if you should use in or on Confused

MJ Lisa - Are is corrrect

el_profe55 - some people use in and others use on. I think they are interchangeable.  In this particuar context I myself would use in but I m not a Londoner so perhaps a Londoner can advise us about local usage.

Also, I would add an article to the sentence: How many lines are there in the L.U.?  However, in everyday usage, some people might add an article and others dont.  Once again, maybe a Londoner can enlighten us.

Cheers

Jayho
