I think that by using may in �You may pack up and go. �
makes it �roll off the toung� better than saying
�You can pack up and go. �
I don �t think using may is too formal at all.
Of course we can pack up and go. We have the ability, but may we? Are we allowed to?
I don �t think I �d ever say �You may pack up and go. � or �You can pack up and go. � They are both quite boring.

I agree with Dawnmain. �Pack up and leave � sounds a bit brusque to me as well. You could just as well say �You can bugger off now, you lot �. Ouch

I usually say "You can put away your things and go. See you on Monday/ See you next week." and "Have a nice weekend!"
