Other or another????????

Today my learners had to do a word search and they had to use a new color for each word that they are looking for. The question I would like your comments on is:
 Do you say:

a) "You need to use another color for each word"
b) "you need to use an other color"
               or
Maybe I should say: "Use a different color for each word"

Thanks

Elanie

I would say "Use a different color for each word". "Another" or "an other" implies using a different one to the one you are using right now. Plus "an other" does not seem correct to me. Hope I have helped!

The last option of the sentence (Use a different colour ...) seems the best one in the case.
The word another is actually the merging of the ndefinite article an with the word other.  So the phrase an other seems strange to me.

Thank you both for the reply.
After I typed the question and I read it, I thought to myself that it should actually be the last one. "Use a different color".
Why do we always second guess ourselves?
