stories for my students

hi all,

I have two groups of students who are 8, 9 and 10 years old. They are coursing the books "Family and Friends 3 and 4". They can handle the present simple and continuous tenses along with the past simple tense properly. I m trying to find out some webpage from which download stories aimed at their level and ages. I want them to improve their listening comprehension skills. Stories should be short and if they are fables better. In their book they listened to the fable "The boy who cried wolf". I feel that when they are familiar with the story in their mother tongue, the easier it is for them to follow the story plot. If you have songs to practice prepositions such as "lemon tree" or any other idea, they will be pretty welcome.

On the other hand, I would like to know if anyone knows where I can find a list of connectors divided instead of by their meaning, by their formal or informal use. For instance, "Moreover, Furthermore" are formal linkers used to add ideas while "Besides, what s more or On top of that or .... to boot" are colloquial/ informal". My FCE students need help with that. Even me, when one of my reinforcement students came to class with a rephrasing test from his school, learnt sth about linkers. I hadn t the foggiest about the word "For" being used with the same meaning as "because of". Is "for" a formal linker?

Thanks in advance for your time and useful help.

The use of for as a connector is rather dated and old fashioned rather than formal.
It is often seen in historical novels, stories and poems. I don t believe it is used much at all in modern English.

Here is a link with meanings and uses of for which includes its use as a conjunction.
