come again? what?, meaning

Hi! Can you help me with this one? Do we use the expression "come again?" when we are upset with what we ve just heard? Or is it just another way of saying what? / can you repeat?

Thanks! Have a great weekend.

Both Olga. You can say come again to have someone to repeat what they have just said or challenge them to repeat what they have just said depending on the context and the mood of the conversation.

Whenever I ve heard come again used the person using the expression always seemed a bit surprised by what they just heard. Personally, I don t really say it too much. What edrodmedina said was correct.
