I intend to teach my students the difference between formal and informal registers. What i am thinking of is to find two passages about the same topic : one is writtten in the formal tone and the other in the informal. I �ve been searching for awhile but no success. Can anybody tell me about a website or a book that include clear examples of what i need?

This One Stop English resource might be useful - it �s a letter.

 

I usually do my own demonstration on the board.  I write a piece of text (letter, e-mail, paragraph etc) and then as a class we substitute the informal/formal words with the other.  I then follow this up with group work where one pair compose a formal text (letter, e-mail, paragraph etc) and the other informal.  They then swap and change it to the opposite register.
