Getting students to read more.

Getting students to read more.

Hi, one of my ambitions this year is to try and get my students to read more and to learn more from what they read. That s why I will keep creating new reading games and writing more stories for beginner readers, but once my students have two feet on the ladder to successful reading, I m sometimes at a loss and it is at this stage where Rob Waring can help out.

What are you going to do this year in the area of reading?

Rob Waring s Extensive Reading Website
Invaluable information and advice on extensive reading from a leading expert and pioneer in the field. The page is helpful both for the specialist and for a teacher/school setting up an extensive reading program for the first time.

You can also see Rob s Language Teaching Professionals page at <http://ltprofessionals.com/en/resources/Rob_Waring.html> which has information on his readers.
www.robwaring.org
Here s the link to Rob Waring s Amazon Store so you can look at the titles I ve worked on and maybe even buy some... Amazon don t stock all the Foundations books - I don t know why.

I have sent you PM. :-D
I like this :-)
http://www.macmillanreaders.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/How-to-Write-a-Graded2.pdf

apart from obvious follow up activities, such as:
 Comprehension questions
 Ordering activities
 Gap-fill activities
 True/false activities
 Multiple choice activities
 Matching activities
I would also recommend:
rephrasing / writing sentences of opposite meaning
sentence making - matching
make a theatre play or radio drama
write a summary
write a letter to the main character / diary of the main character
crafts - drawing, making finger puppets, drawing a cover/poster...
