"water sources" is better.

Here s where kmtr and I will have to agree to disagree. Both are fine, but I actually prefer "sources of water." Why? I could think of a sentence naturally using "sources of water" first. "My city is not near a natural lake or river, and our reservoir often gets low in the summer. We need to find new sources of water soon." Water sources doesn t sound as good here to me. |

I think both terms are fine and it s not something you hear very often. MoodyMoody makes a good point, I d probably go with that.

@ Moody: It would sound great in singular: water source, wouldn t it? Sophia

I don t disagree with MoodyMoody--I just thought of examples with water sources more quickly! :) "The people got sick because their water source was contaminated" and "The nomadic people in the dessert relied on various water sources to survive."
So I guess they are both fine! |

Both are fine.
For me, which I use depends on the context:
If they want to live on that island, they ll need a source of water.
Their main water source is a spring which flows all year round. |

I think both are right. Such as the correction of the homework or homework correction. |
