Can we use going to to talk about future plans that are certain to happen?

going to can be used for intentions (not necessarily firm) and predictions (which are quite certain to happen, since we have evidence).

Some examples:

I �m going to study a lot more from now on  (intention)
That woman is going to have a baby (prediction: we can see that she is pregnant, so we can be quite certain).

be going to implies that there are signs that something will  happen , "will" implies that the speaker thinks or believes that it will happen.
