Help!

Hi, everyone,

Could you confirm if the underlined word  is possible to use in the below

sentence and what the synonyms are.

Are there better versions to express the idea?

    === I m glad the cinema is still playing it since we were too

         busy to see it last week.===

I would say that "playing" it is acceptable, but that "showing it" is the far better choice. We generally use "playing" intransitively - The film is still playing there./ The cinema is still showing the film.

Agree - playing is fine and showing is better

i would say i am glad the film is still on . it would sound more authentic.

Here are the phrases from the IMDb website and Yahoo!movies:

Find the latest new movies now playing in theaters

Find what is showing in theaters this weekend.

So, I guess, both are fine, especially bc the natives say so:)

@Sophia,
Olga was asking about the transitive use, "playing it", which is different from the fine examples you found. It s also more complicated.
