Hi, dear colleagues, I �m about the sentence: Time moved on, but Willy Loman hasn �t. Could I say so, I mean from the point of view of sequence of tences? TA, Olga |

Dear Savvinka,
There are two cases here. If I �m using the past simple tense, my sentence would be like this:
Time moved on, but Willy Loman didn �t.
Otherwise, I would use the present perfect and say:
Time has moved on, but Willy Loman hasn �t.

Abbes is definitely right about this. In informal English, it would be accepted, but it wouldn �t sound right. There isn �t a sequence here, because the events are essentially simultaneous. Bruce |
