Hei Hei Nice People!

This school year, I m working with a group of grown up students in a professional class/course, and the only topic we have to study for 50hours Cry is... "International organisations". Despite the topic, these students are elementary students (some of them even beginners)...

I started the Unit by talking about "Heroes" and then we did some comprehension exercises on a song by Megadeath (The World needs a hero). Then, we talked about Goodwill Ambassadors. They were asked to do some research work/group work about this. Now we re watching the film - The interpreter...
I ve done some research, but...I really feel lost...... I d like to keep their interest in the English class. Can you help ME?
Do you have any ideas or any materials that I could use???

Thank You Embarrassed

Maybe it ll be worthwhile to look into the humanitarian organisations which have helped people who suffered because of disasters like hurricanes, tsunami, fires, earthquakes. You can look at some reports and articles in the media about Fukushima or Haiti, etc. also how celebrities take part in such events.... What do you think?

This Ted Talk by Ernest Sirolli is pretty good and the man is humorous and easy to understand.

hi! I m also teaching that module. We watched "Beyond borders", talked (and read, of course) about Goodwill Ambassadors Shakira and Angelina Jolie and they gathered in threes and are doing research and preparing posters about different International Organisations. I would very much like to exchange ideas with you. I m almost finishing the module, but it s always nice to know about different ways of doing things.

Hi there!
Being also a sociologist (husband - political science professor), we thought that you need some kind of a syllabus so that you know that your students know they are going somewhere, that there are some objectives of the course, some body of knowledge to master. That s what you should start with and continue with a  sellection of readings/course materials later on. Here are some sample course descriptions:

Major theoretical and empirical aspects of the role of international organizations in international politics, including, inter alia, their impact on the practice of international cooperation and conflict, the maintenance of international peace and security, the management of international economic relations, the promotion of international environmental standards, the prosecution of international crimes, and related matters of concern to international society. International organizations to be discussed range from the League of Nations to the United Nations, from the World Bank to the World Trade Organization, from the European Union to the African Union, and from NATO to the International Criminal Court.

Can states work out cooperative solutions to problems of human injustice and environmental degradation? What is the record of the United Nations in conflict management? What has been the impact of World Bank programs on the alleviation of poverty? Why are the International Monetary Fund and the World Trade Organization regarded as necessities by some and as obstacles by others? These are some of the questions addressed in an exploration of the potentials and limitations of international organizations in the world system.

Keep my fingers crossed Thumbs Up
