Hello! Both recently and lately suggest a recent period of time but  lately is mostly used in the interrogative and negative, for example: I havent seen her lately./ I have talked to Mary recently.
I hope this helps! have a nice day!

I think the difference is one of duration. I mean, recently refers to a period closer to the moment of speaking whereas lately refers to a period not so closer.

He hasnt played chess recently (these days, this week).
He hasnt played chess lately (this month).

And if had been sick, I would say, "lately Im been feeling strange,
but I would also say, I had the flue just recently.

Yes,youre right, Libertybell. It was an incorrect information I found somewhere and I didnt give it too much thought at the time. Now that I think about it, I really use both, of course. Silly me!Sorry Embarrassed

Yep, theyre the same - if there is a difference it is minor - students can quite safely use them both
