Preposition (+ personal pronoun) at the end of the sentence

Dear Colleagues,

When do I need the it at the end of the following sentences. I am absolutely confused about this topic right now.

1. The bed was too uncomfortable for me to sleep in. (do i need it here?)Why?
2. The sign was so small that I couldn t see it. ( I feel that I need it here)

I would be very grateful for a quick  grammar reference.
Thank you very much!

1.The bed was too uncomfortable for me to sleep in. ( You may use the it or not because it s optional for this sentence.

It s the difference between the object of a preposition (optional) and the direct object of the verb (not optional).
