Yangon, Myanmar

Does anyone know anything about Yangon, or Rangoon, which is, or used to be the capital of Myanmar? I am considering applying to do a year s teaching there. (Please don t vote this spam!)

Thanks Sophia - the links are great. I enjoyed the youtube clip. Myanmar is the modern name for Burma. I didn t know that until I saw the job advert. I am thinking about doing VSO. I used to be adventurous and maybe there is one last adventure in me. The kids are grown up, Steve will look after the cat... I could do a year. Anyway, I ve got the application off, so let s see what happens. I hope I don t chicken out...

Hi Lynne

Teaching in Myanmar would be very rewarding. I have many adult students from refugee camps in Myanmar and these students are just lovely.

I would highly recommend that you consult your govts travel advice to Myanmar though, before making a decision. There are many factors that may impact on your final decision.

Cheers

P.P.S. As a sideline, if you like Harrods and Burmese cats then youll find that this is an interesting link about pure bred Burmese cats being reintroduced to Myanmar as they were extinct there.
