English and German bilingual lesson

Dear Colleagues,

I m looking for ideas for a bilingual lesson that I would like to have with my Ss. These student s first foreign language is German  and they learn English as a second foreign language. The SS are 18 years old. Unfortunately in two years the SS in our school won t learn two foreign languages just one. We would like to show how useful it is to know both languages and how much common things these languages share.

I haven t done anything like this before so I thought I might ask you for some ideas.  If you happen to have any experience in this,  please share with me.

Thanks a lot.

One idea would be to have a comparative lesson of something unique to a German speaking country and an English speaking country.

Students could make a German  specialty dish and an English speciallty dish.
The German dish they would have to make following a German recipe, and correspondingly, the English dish is made from an English recipe.

They have to explain in German how they made the German dish. They must explain in English how they made the English dish.

Or one group could report in German on a German city while another group reports in English on an English city.

Hi. A few years ago, my German colleague and I used this website to show our students (lower secondary)  the similarities between German and English and it worked really well. Your students are older, but you may be able to adapt the activities for them:  http://ospitiweb.indire.it/~udee0001/deutsch/deutsch_nach_englisch/Deutsch_nach_Englisch.htm
Hope that helps you.
