HELP

Hi everyone,

I have one doubt about these sentences. I have to connect them to make a subordinate one.

-WE ENJOYED OUR HOLIDAY- WE LOST OUR SUITCASE (DESPITE)

Must I say:  We enjoyed our holiday despite losing our suitcase

or      despite having lost our suitcase

And the other one

-HE IS OLDER THAN ME . HE HAS GOT MORE RESPONSABILITY

Can I join then with SUCH or SO , or do I have to use another connector?

For instance

He is older than me and a such, he has got more responsability
or
He is older than me so he has got more responsability

Thanks in advance

Hi.

We enjoyed our holiday despite losing our suitcase
or despite having lost our suitcase   - Both are correct, although, I guess, the second option with the perfect gerund (having lost)  has more emphasis on the completed action, But to me they both sound Ok.

In the second sentence, the correct answer would be:

He is older than meso he has got more responsibility (a comma would be welcome, also).

So here starts a result clause , such would be inappropriate.
e.g. The weather was hot,  so we went swimming.

Cheers,
Giorgi

or despite having lost our suitcase
I think both are correct but its meaning is a little different.
The first one, we took our suitcase with us on our holiday but we lost it then.
The second one, we lost  our suitcase at home (before the trip).

I believe  as such can also be used, though it is quite formal.

He is older than me and as such, he has got more responsibility
or
He is older than me so he has got more responsibility

Also to be grammatically correct It should be older than I (am) not older than me. However when speaking me is what is commonly used.

I would also say, "We enjoyed our holiday despite the fact that we lost our suitcase"
