GTKY ( getting to Know You) game
write 4 truths and one lie about yourself on the board. Have students take turns asking questions to discover the lie. Then have students pair off and repeat the activity amongst themselves.  It s  a fun way to practice question formation and to get to know one another.

I had something like GTKY game CM Albert wrote about, but did it in a bit different way - I wrote several words connected with me on the board and students tried to guess how exactly those things were connected with me. Of course, it shouldn t be very obvious.
And after that students told me about people sitting next to them - it really helped me to break the ice during the first lesson. Btw, the age was the same: 12-14 y.o.

I take a box or a sack and ask every student to put something in it ( a pen, a rubber, a small toy, etc). Then, you can close your eyes and take one thing out of the box without looking at it. The person whose thing has been chosen should tell some words about himself and  the thing. For example, I m Julia, I m 13, I m optimistic and independent. This is my black pen. My best friend gave it to me some days ago.

You don t give the thing back, you put it on the table. When all your students (if the group is small) or a part of the students (if the group is big) finish the task, ask everybody to remember names and info about every person. For example, Do you remember whose pen is this? What else do you remember about her? ( it s ok if they remember even only names :) ) Or you can take every thing and give back to the students saying "Thank you, Dan. Thank you, Mary....."

Take a roll of toilet paper. Ask ss to tear off as many pieces of it as they would need on a typical day. Then, ask them to put the pieces on the table one by one and say something about themselves. p.s. It s a fun way of getting ss to talk about themselves, as long as none of them is suffering from diarrhoea :D

I d give them a piece of paper A4 and ask them to draw their life or something particular about their life. Then in turn in front of the class show and explain to the others what they have done. Introducing oneself and telling about the past.

JuliaKaraban That sounds simple and fun, and might even get the shy ones talking. Thanks for that.

In class room, getting everyone to talk is really a tough task for teachers. Playing any fun game. may be good.
