please help with ideas - India, adults, edutainment

Dear colleagues, I am looking for ideas to have an entertaining evening on the topic "India" as part of a whole taught weekend on the topic. My learners are 30-40 adults at beginners through to advanced level. In the evening they leave their groups and get together. My only idea such far is performing a short puppet theater play. Does anyone have any other engaging ideas? Playing cricket is not a feasible option. My colleague wants to show a movie but I can picture half the people going to bed early as their proficiency level is not high enough. PLEASE SHARE IDEAS!!

You could show them the film "Slumdog Millionaire" by D. Boyle, or at least parts of it. It is a fantastic film showing different aspects of changing India. I ve used it with some of my students. After studying different topics on India (we ve studied beforehand themes like "Ghandi", "Bollywood", "Diwali" or the role played by Mother Theresa to help the poor...), and some scenes of the film, they had to create their own "Millionaire questions" about India and then act the game. They really enjoyed it. I hope this idea can bring new ones to you. Best of luck!

Maybe you have a possibility to have Skype and talk to real Indians about their customs and traditions, place of living and etc?

Although a movie is going seem like an easy way out. Do not do it.

All Indian movies do not always give a true viewpoint. I am Indian myself.
If you actually do show movies to them, they will just think of all Indians as stereotypical.

And that is not only degrading their image of Indians but also an insult to us.

Review this video before you go any further :

And if you want to try making your students dance to bollywood songs. Feel free to.
But then just for laughs see this video too...
