Hi teachers in the UK,
Would you please help me with this question (In the UK, you should dial 999 when someone vandalizes a statue) I have two option TRUE or FALSE. The option "TRUE" is incorrect. How can I justify this? What number do British people dial when someone vandalizes a statue?
Thx in advance.

Googling the question I found this site that asks for a postal code to determine the proper number to report vandalism in the UK.

Thank you, but no phone number there.

In the UK, the number to call for vandalism to a statue is "101".

So, in this question, if you give the answer as "999", the answer is UNTRUE.

"101 - The police non-emergency number - Police.uk"

"When should I use 101?"

You should call 101 to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response. For example, if:

  • Your car has been stolen
  • Your property has been damaged
  • You suspect drug use or dealing in your neighbourhood

Or to:

  • Give the police information about crime in your area
  • Speak to the police about a general enquiry

You should always call 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.

I hope that this helps you.

Les Douglas.

I used the link https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode to look up a postal code. I chose London for my search and then chose one business address from the resulting menu.
It had a postal code of TW6 2EB , which I entered in the report vandalism link.
It brought me to https://www.gov.uk/report-vandalism/hillingdon when I clicked on the go to their website button. That brought me here https://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/index.jsp?articleid=7849 and there was a link to contact them at the bottom of the page which brought me to this page https://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/contactus. clicking the contact us by phone button brought me to this list of phone numbers for various services.. The best match from the list seemed to be
Environment, street cleansing and street lighting01895 556000
the number in red is the telephone number.   Alternately, one could choose report graffitti from the hillingdon page above. The customer care number should be able to direct you to the proper place to report vandalism to a statue.

edit:
I see our posts crossed, Les. Thank you for your answer.
