Present Perfect vs Present Continuous

Hello to all

My student asked me to explain the difference between these two sentences that she had found in some grammar book online:

Ive been here since morning. (Present Perfect)

Im sitting here since morning. (Present Continuous)

I wasnt quite sure. Could somebody help to explain the difference between these two grammar structures, please?

Thank you

Hi,

Im not sure the second one is correct.

Maybe, Im sitting here this morning, which, I guess, would be ok for some context.

What would other forum participants say?

Agree with niksailor. I dont think we can use the present continuous with since. Also, to make the first sentence sound more natural, it should be Ive been sitting here since this morning.

I agree with niksailor and Lynne.

I agree. The basic meaning of the present continuous is "now". I am sitting here (now), writing my response.
