hit

Earthquakes are the most destructive natural disasters. They usually hit/ strike without any warning and result in a great loss of life and an enormous demolition of buildings.

Is hit or strike is correct here? Please tell me what the difference between hit and strike is.Thank you.

Both "hit" and "strike" can be used in the context of earthquakes, but in this particular sentence, "strike" would be a more appropriate choice. Here is the revised sentence: "Earthquakes are the most destructive natural disasters. They usually strike without any warning and result in a great loss of life and enormous demolition of buildings."
Using "strike" in this context emphasizes the suddenness and forcefulness of earthquakes, conveying the idea that they occur unexpectedly and with significant impact. It aligns with the common usage of "strike" when describing natural disasters like earthquakes, where the term implies a powerful and intentional action.
