This is a sponge or short activity that can be done the last few minutes of class. It focuses on recognizing triangles, diamonds, and rectangles and writing the numbers as words. You could also have the students color the shaped different colors.

Earth and Mars
Before I taught The War of the Worlds, I did some nonfiction activities about Earth and Mars. There are two charts of information. A picture of the two planets, questions, fill-in-the-blank sentences with a word bank, and an interesting picture of what NASA believes to be a Martian fossil. Also, there is an answer key.
