Whats Going On
My students listened to the "All Star Tribute" (MTV version on youtube) of "Whats Going On" to discuss the 1960s and the Civil Rights Movement. They enjoyed the song very much, especially because it helped them understand what people like Martlin Luther King, Jr. were thinking during that time. It can also be related to the Vietnam War.

Find Your Partner Cards
I made these speaking cards for a game described on Daves ESL Cafe website called "Find Your Partner". I used information that my students shared about themselves from our first class. Give students three or four minutes to memorize their card. Take the cards away and have them recite what their card said. They must say it to each person in th...

American High School Cliques
This is a worksheet for intermediate-level students. I taught a thematic unit about American high school life (in contrast to Korean high school life). It is based on the stereotypes of cliques in American high schools. My students had a better understanding of different kinds of students after doing this worksheet.

Ke$ha - Tik Tok
I used Ke$has song "Tik Tok" to review daily routine verbs (i.e. wake up, brush my teeth, try on clothes, etc.). Students listened to the song and filled in the missing verbs. To check their work, I showed a youtube video with the English lyrics. Some students had a hard time because the lyrics are fast. For lower-level students, I suggest mak...

Elvis: Jailhouse Rock
I used this to introduce the 1950s and rock-n-roll to students. It is a popular, fun song from Mr. Presley. My students enjoyed listening to Elvis and learning what "rock and roll" is. They also enjoyed the "jailbird" and "jailhouse" vocabulary. Enjoy!

Irregular Verb Chart
I made this irregular verb chart for students to fill in the missing verbs. I wrote the verb in one tense; students fill in the rest. This chart is great for practice. After completing the charts, students can keep it and use as a reference. Enjoy!

Road Trip Itinerary
I made this for my freshmen, intermediate students. They had to plan a road trip that included destinations, activities, and stops along the way. I had to explain what each word meant, then students were able to plan their trip.

Iron Man 2 - Movie Trailer
I made this matching activity for the new "Iron Man 2" movie trailer. Students should put the quotes in the order that they hear them. Here is the youtube video I used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siQgD9qOhRs. The English is very fast, so I had to pause and play it several times. Great activity for boys and/or teenagers!

Friends Introduction
I made this printable to introduce the cast of "Friends" to my high school students. Their level is low-intermediate, so this activity was very challenging. I recommend this introduction for upper-intermediate/advanced students. Students should fill in information while watching an episode of "Friends."
