Students are required to learn to say each of these phrases. Then they take this sheet to their content area classes. Teachers sign off as students use each phrase. The teachers at my school love it! They can see the students trying and making progress. It also builds the confidence of the student.

How to Read a Physical Map
I used this to teach my lower intermediate level students map reading skills. It provides a written guide for an online tutorial, walking them through step by step. We used iPads to complete this activity, so there is a QR code included on the worksheet. However, the website is in the footer should you need it.
