Reporting verbs - Pairwork
Students read their sentences to their partner. Their partner has to report what has just been said using a reporting verb. Students check if their partner is doing it correctly by looking at the solution in brackets.
I use this activity with Unit 5C of New English File Upper Intermediate, but it can be used with any book.

Narrative Tenses - An Urban Legend
Cut the first part of the story and hand it out to students. They complete it with the correct tenses. Then, working in pairs, they have to predict how the story goes on. Elicit ideas, then move on to part 2 and repeat the procedure. The same goes for part 3. Finally give them the end of the story (see page 2). Key on page 3.
