Modified Test on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave
This is a modified version of my other test on Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave. Some of the essay question are in Spanish. I wanted to know whether my students gained the content knowldege of the complex issue of slavery. This was given in a high school Sheltered English 11 class (American Literature.)

Novel Project
This is the generic version of a novel project I do with my students. The Frankenstein To Kill A Mockingbird Projects that I have posted are the same, but everything is particular to those novels. This one I made very generic so that it can go with almost any novel. My students like being given a choice as to what they do.

Ramadan/Islam
I used this test when teaching about all of the winter holidays with my novice/elementary English learners. I used it with novice high schoolers, but I think it is appropriate for anyone learning about Islam and Ramadan. It is very simple, but covers the basics.

Reading Response Log
My students use this worksheet to write about their independent reading. I found that if I just let them write on their own, they would just recite the book over again. This helps them focus on their connections and analysis of the story, not just retelling plot (though they have to do that too!) I think it is adaptable to many levels.

Reading Strategy Activity
This is a generic reading strategy plan that can go along with any type of reading-especially helpful for newspapers, or magazine articles. I actually made this up to use with my faculty to model reading strategies as we read academic journal articles!

This is a reading comprehension sheet for Act 1, scenes ii-iii of Romeo and Juliet. My students read an adapted/modernized version of the play, but these could obviously be used with the original as well.
