The Melbourne Cup
This is a worksheet designed for low-literacy adult learners. The Melbourne Cup is a very famous sporting event in Australia. Students learn some basic vocabulary (matching from phonetic cues), read some simple sentences and match to pictures. The vocabulary is then recycled in a word search.

Understanding the difference between past simple and past continuous
My students were having trouble understanding how these tenses work in combination, so I made up this worksheet to give them some extra practice. The first page is explanation, and the 2nd page asks them to think about the order that the actions happened in based on the structures used.

Last Man Standing
This activity involves viewing a short video (url is on the sheet) about Stephen Bradbury, an Australian who won Olympic gold in ice skating after all his competitors fell; there are some preparatory discussion questions and a vocabulary activity. Students are then asked to plan and write a narrative based on what they have viewed.
