Accidentally in Love - Counting Crows
This is not just a listening task - this is a reading task as well using a concert advertisment for Counting Crows. My students love this as it gives the task some authenticity. The listening task is not only a cloze passage but offers practice in editing, and listening for sequence. There are two links to you tube here so that you have a audio-vis...

Jonas Brothers Reading I
Designed to appeal to teenaged girls, this worksheet was engaging and required students to infer meaning from context. It is good practice for the reading skill.

Robert Pattinson Stinks!
This works well with difficult to motivate teens. It generates plenty of discussion. It engages because students are interested enough to read for detail. It works well for pre-intermediate too, good for practice.

The Crocodile - Roald Dahl (reading writing activity)
This is a great activity for students to use prediction to piece together a famous poem. First work with the verses and then with the lines in each verse. If you have access, students can check their answers using the youtube link. After, students are to write two verses in the same structure.

Advertisement - Sports Bar
This is a speaking task as well - students need to present/pitch their advertisement to the rest of the class. This is great as a group work activity but is equally effective done individually. Included are marking rubrics for both speaking and writing sections.

Listening task - You Gotta Be - Des`ree
Very good listening practice, not just a cloze passage, has listening for sequence as well.
This is not only a listening task. This also has a reading task attached as well - regarding Des`rees lawsuit against Beyonce, good for reading comprehension (finer details).

Jonas Brothers reading no 2
My students enjoyed this reading as much as the first Jonas reading. It is little more difficult - it requires making inferences. It generated great class discussion (75 of my class are fans and the others the opposite) and students used the language to express opinions. It helps to read the text as a class and then for students to complete the que...

Sell My Sports Drink - marketing task
My students loved this activity. They created magic sports drinks (we discussed this using Willy Wonka and Harry Potter as examples) and really enjoyed creating an advertising campaign for their products (some filmed TV ads, others taped themselves for radio ads, some created dialogues for talk-back shows). It is a great writing and speaking skill ...

London Still - Listening Task
I used this song for pre-intermediate students. We had to discuss some expressions before the listening. It is great to infer mood and tone.

Fractured Ghost Story
This is a creative writing task. It can be extended into a speaking task as well if students are asked to retell thier ghost stories (this can be a lot of fun if the atmosphere is good ie, sitting in a circle, lights dimmed etc.
