Can we say "She bore two sons last summer"?

Can we use a verb "bear" refering to people as giving birth. For example Can we say "She bore two sons last summer" Please help me so I can make it clear to my student.

Yes, you can, but as many of my sts quote me in many cases - �you can say lots of things- but they may not always sound great! � I would say this:
She had 2 sons last summer. OR EVEN BETTER She gave birth to two sons last summer.

I agree. Modern English doesn �t use bear/bore for childbirth.
I hope those sons were twins! If they were I would say
�She gave birth to twin boys last summer. �

Yes, it �s old fashioned. You will come across it in the classics but not so much in contemporary literature. I agree with Anatarobi �s suggestion: either gave birth / had. |
