Help

Hi,
I desperately need guidance with teaching literature. I will be teaching literature to 15 year olds this coming school year. I am not experienced in this area. I was wondering if you know of a good website that deals with methodology and lesson planning. Maybe there is an experienced teacher who is willing to answer my questions along the way and give me advice from her/his experience.
My first question is:

How to present an introduction to the study of literature in one or two lessons?

It is important to state that my pupils are not native speakers.

Thank you,
Debbie

I use lots of literature in my teaching, but it depends whether your goal is to teach them literary terms (like the metaphor, types of verses, etc. ) or you merely, as I do, plan to work with literary works to teach them how to enjoy it, interprete it and expand their language knowledge. If it s the latter, plenty of people here have uploaded various projects and wss on specific works of literature, so if you choose, e. g. E. A. Poe, you will find lots of things, I bet. The reading level also depends on the linguistic knowledge level of your sts - some people don t like the abridged Penguin and MacMillan versions of books, but I love them - they come with cds, cd-roms, suggestions for teachers, free online exercises, and if you add a few word games and an extract or two from the original book, pretty soon you get kids reading the originals themselves. If, from this message, you think I m on to sth, feel free to pm me about details, and I d be glad to help. If not, never mind, just wait, because there is always sb here ready and able to help...Good luck
Anita
