Children reading

I have been an adult ESL teacher for many years, but have recently begun teaching children.  I am okay with the grammar and all, but I am stumped when it comes to teaching kids to read.  I have some young, 5-7 year olds, and I am always looking for new ways to teach the letters.  I prefer the phonic ways, as it is more practical.

I don t teach in school.  I have my own school.

PLEASE HELP!!

I teach the letters out of alphabet order, starting with the ones which have the most consistent orthography (e.g. s , p , v ) and ending with the ones which have the most possible phonic values (the vowels).
