Thanks Aftab and Serene, aftab I downloaded your worksheet, gonna use it for sure. Ready statements - what else would I want? Thanks.
Spagman, really?
I avoid religion, I have Spanish and Brazilian students (Catholic), and occasionally Muslims and Hindus, and I m super sensitive. In my TEFL course we were taught that Religion, Politics, Sex and something else should never be discussed. Whoever gets hurt would certainly never tell, but they form a (subconscious?) negative impression of the class, of the teacher and then - of the school.
Up for debate? |

Hi Lana:)
I think that debate is a very good idea for controversial topics. I ve got few - maybe not all of them are controversial but they are good to discuss:):
Capital punishment is the best way to deter criminals. Job satisfaction is more important than money. Honesty is always the best policy. Modern technology does more harm than good. Childhood is the happiest time of one s life. It s impossible to be best friends with someone of the opposite sex. Co-education is more effective than single-sex education. Living abroad is better than living in your home country.

Controversial Topics? I m Dutch, living not too far from Amsterdam. I always have to explain:
-Why Soft drugs are allowed in certain coffee shops, where you can not drink coffee, maybe certain teas
-Why I can buy a joint, but never have smoked one
-Why homosexuals are allowed to marry
-Why gay couples are allowed to adopt children
-Why people are allowed to end their lives in a human way with the help of a doctor
-Why abortion is a mother s choice not a political one made by men in pinstriped suits
-Why prostitutes have to pay taxes
Just google Holland and you ll be surprised.
And if you need answers, I ll be glad to send them to you.
Kind regards,
Adinda |
