tanque de lavar a "roupa"...do you mean the machine we use to wash clothes? (sorry...my portuguese is so...nothing...)...if so it is called "washing machine".
edited: sorry...but have checked to see what tanque de lavar a "roupa" is, and it is the sink to wash clothes by hand. I know it as "sink" but maybe some other member can confirm or correct.

Hi Tere. Susana is talking about handwashing. The place where we do it. In Portugal we call it "tanque".
P.S. My dictionary has "wash tub". What do you think? |

Hi Mena. Yes, I understood when I saw the pic, but am not sure about the word. As I said in my edited message, I "think" it is sink... I didnt know about wash tub but am going to check as soon as I come back. Good to know/improve vocab!

A washboard is a thing you scrub clothes with! (or play on if you play Zydeco music from Louisiana!)

Mena is correct - it s a wash tub.
And the other can be:
Laundry soap, laundry detergent, detergent...
