what ´s a school day like?

im curious what is a school day like in your place?
for us (a secondary school in Thailand), the kids have to be in school for the flag ceremony at 8AM. They do this everyday. After that, classes start at 8.20. Each period is 1 hour. In our school, the kids have 3 periods in the morning and no recess. Lunch time is at 11.20-12.20. Then they study for 4 more periods in the afternoon and then classes end at 4.20. So, they study 7 periods for each day -- monday to friday.
the kids seem not to be tired of learning as they have special classes after school, that sometimes end at 8.30pm. then, they also study during weekends.
i have learned that some parents send their kids to these tutorial classes to be rid of them inside the house, as many of them are hard to control. and this is also the reason why many of the kids seldom give importance to classroom learning because they think they can still study the same topics outside of class. (talk about wasting money and time!)
EDIT: we start classes on the 2nd week of may, then have a 2 week break in october, then continue until the last week of february. (we have 2-3 days holiday for new year´s and no christmas break!! )
what is it like with you?

Hi,
We start school around 15th Sept. Primary grades have a 1 week holiday during the first week in Nov. Then everybody has a 2 weeks holiday around Christmas. The first semester ends at the end of January - one more week of holiday between semesters. The spring holiday is a 2 weeks period around Easter. School year finishes around 15th June.
A typical day starts at 8.00. Each class is 50 minutes with a 10 minutes break (Ss go out in the school yard, Ts rest except for the ones on duty on the corridors or in the playground). Primary classes end at 12 (so they have 4 classes each day) except for those which are in the Step-by-Step programme (they finish at 4 pm with 1 hour lunch break).
Secondary grades finish the day at 1 or 2 pm. In some cases they may stay until 3 pm.
Ss do not change their classroom - each T goes to teach his/her subject to their classroom. I wish I could have my English lab with Ss coming to me - you should see me most of the time carrying stuff to teach my classes - I look like Santa Claus: big register, schoolbag with loads of books & Ws, cassette player, laptop, flipchart paper, maybe a bag with surprises (usually my daughter s toys)... Well, everything is worth as soon as I see their happy faces!
Hugs,
Gabitza

Teachers change classes not pupils.
Special types of schools like the music, ecclesiastical or the athletic have a different time schedule. My school is an athletic school so we have one more period the 8th from 14:05 14:40
Most Greek students also attend various private classes in the afternoon. Usually they get extra lessons in foreign languages, ancient Greek, maths and most also participate in a sport of their choice and belong to teams.
They have more hours than most working people because the University entrance exams are extremely difficult to pass.
Teachers work 16 - 21 hours per week depending on their years of experience.
Heve a nice wekend,
Maria
