How many sisters have you got? I don t have any sisters.
Do you have a sister? I don t have a sister.
I think it depends on the question. hope this helps.

Spot on Fleur,
How many sisters have you got?" I try to drum into my students to use as much of the question as possible when answering a question.
Therefore in my opinion it should be (No,) I havent got any sisters.
And in the same vain, the questions for the answers below would be;
1. Do you have any sisters?
2. Do you have a sister?
(No,) I don t have any sister(s)."
(No,) "I don t have a sister"
Enjoy. |

I pretty much agree except for the "(s)" next to "any sister(s)".
As I see it (There may be a rule out there that says I m wrong, but it feels right)
If you answer with "any" then sister needs to be plural (sisters)--it s not optional.
Both answers would be okay for your question, but "any sisters" is "more right"

Do you have any sisters? No, I don t have any sisters. Do you have a sister? No, I don t have a sister.

How many sisters have you got?" --> I havent got any sisters.
Douglas, as one American to another, of course there s a rule my dear :we usually use "any" with the plural of countable nouns. With the singular it s "a" or "an"
