Dear colleagues,
we are supposed to use "the" before ORDINAL NUMERALS
So is it correct to say "He is in _____ ninth grade" without a definite article?

"in the nineth grade" would be my choice. I always use the definite article. |

�He is in the ninth grade � is correct. To say, �he is in a ninth grade � makes no sense in the English language...unless you were to say �he is in a ninth grade class �, but that �s a different context, so �the � is the article to use in this situation. |

In GOOGLE they also write such phrases (My kid is in ............grade) without any articles! |

I would say "He is in ninth grade" without an article.

I use it both ways: with "the" and withouy "the", but I can �t tell you for sure which is correct according to the rule books. |
