Ideas on teaching

Hi guys,
I m a teacher in Colombia (South America) and I was recently asked to give private classes to a blind person. I like the challenge and I d obviously love to help this guy, but I have no idea on how to teach the blind a language. I know he has an intermediate level, which helps, but I d love any ideas on teaching him if you have any.
Thanks a lot for your time and possible comments..

I would discuss the latest events, bring in music, or have audio tapes that describe a historical event. They would be great for discussion. I am sure there are books for the blind in English so I would have a copy that they could read and a copy that I could follow along with as well. Then maybe so some question and answering with free discussion.
I don t have any experience in this area but those are ideas I would use in your situation!! Good luck and let me know how it works out for you.

Hi Martha,
This is quite a challange. I would talk to a specialistand ask how they procede. You can also talk with your student and ask him how the previous teacherproceded. There is no shame in admitting that you don t know what to do in this case as it is a special task and as you are not a blind person you don t read braile. There must bean association for blind people in your country. Contact them. |
