Today was the Melbourne Cup race. This is a three minute horse race which stops the nation (well, the whole of Australia.) Everyone dresses up in their best clothes, puts on an exquisite hat and PARTIES.
So the afternoon classes of Embassy CES on the Gold Coast had a great day celebrating while learning all things equine. We had a lot of fun with fashion parades...great for superlatives eg prizes for shiniest hair, longest earrings, most elegant guy, the cleanest shirt, etc.
This was followed by a quiz where each group was made up of students from each level. It was so great seeing Elementary helping Upper Intermediate and vice versa. The questions were deliberately chosen to suit featuring general knowledge, eg "How many legs does a horse have?" as well as irregular verbs eg " What is the continuous form of to run?", and rhymes, homophones, etc. Students could use any form of assistance including the internet, dictionaries, the teacher, newspapers, etc.
Finally we made hats for "Fashions on the Field". It was really great to see adults teaching each other how to make and decorate paper hats and cut-out horses. They all had a ball and they learnt so much!
Really don t you think even the biggest, oldest student still likes to kick back and have fun?
I could publish the quiz if anyone thinks they would like it.
Cheers from a very tired but satisfied Joy from downunder.
PS The international lunch we shared wasnt bad either.
