Its the future with going to (for future plans). e.g. What are you going to do tomorrow? I m going to meet my friends, we going to have dinner and then we re going dancing. (to go dancing/shopping/running).

The sentence you have written "I am going dancing "is not from the structure "be going to" ... It s the future form of the "present continous". Present continous has a future use too.
What s happening this weekend? We re going dancing What are we doing at 13.00? We are visiting Versailles.

I agree with Samantha s explanation. It s present continuous for arrangements and plans for the future. While be going to is used to express intentions. Stella

I stand corrected. Tonight I m meeting some friends; first, we re having dinner and then we re going drinking and dancing.

to express intentions, we usually use will+verb ; for be going to + verb , it usually stands for plans for future... |
