I found this expression and I think it �s important to understand the article I �m reading. What does it mean?
An extract:
"That �s what �s missing from the lives of kids here- order and tradition, Monroe thought. Children need a place they can go to escape chaos. But ritual and tradition alone weren �t the answer. Lorraine �s father, a metalworker, was an example of someone always doing the unexpected, always doing the bold thing."

It has to do with being courageous. Bold in this sense means not fearful. It can also mean daring.
