Hi people,
Last week I asked for your help here in the forum for one topic that I was about to start with my students - Social exclusion and solidarity - and one of your colleagues Priorita suggested me to talk about the ethnic minorities that live in ghettos, especially in New York ghettos http://www.eslprintables.com/forum/topic.asp?id=14495
I found the idea excellent but the problem is that I cannot find a lot of stuff about this particular subject. What I am asking is that do u know where I can find a good video about New York Ghettos and testimonies of people that live there? And about writting activities, do u know where I can find them?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi!
Have you already thought about a film? For example: Dangerous Minds with Michelle Pfeifer,
CRASH

I studied a text about latinos in New-york with my students and I put the worksheet on the site, it s called "living la vida latina" and the worksheet you ll find under "living la vida latina worksheet". it might be useful. |

Hi Morganalin
This is a difficult topic - there is plenty on the Holocaust ghettos yet little on other ghettos. You might find something that you can adapt here:
Children in the ghetto (Holocaust ghetto)
In each of the locations, original exhibits such as video testimonies, photographs, paintings, artifacts etc. are accompanied by interactive and thought-provoking activities.
Other than that how about exploring Elvis s song In the Ghetto and perhaps working with a contemporary movie set in a ghetto such as Dangerous Minds like Terasapr mentioned (or one of the many other ghetto movies)
Cheers

Hi Morganalin,
I keep on finding the movie "Crash", directed by Paul Haggis a power tool to show the topic you are dealing with. I have used it in my classes for multiculturalism and my students and I still enjoy it A LOT. It shows lots of minorities and how they behave towards one another. Hope it helps. Good luck and a nice week (with the holiday and all).
