Can we use nr as an abbreviation of number?

Hello Sueee,
when I was at school, I learnt that the abbreviation of number was nr. However when I was doing my training to be a teacher, my tutor told me that the correct abbreviation was no. Since then, it�s the one I use. But this year, when I started teaching a class that had English last year, I realised that they write the abbreviation nr. That�s means that many teacher write nr as being the abbreviation of number.
If you look up in the longman dictionary online or the oxford dictionary. the abbreviation is no. |
