How do you teach 2nd Conditional? ...

Hello!
I m going to start teaching Second Conditional to 2 groups of 13-16 years old
students and I ve been looking for activities to introduce them to this grammar topic.
It could be an interesting text, a game, a song...something meaningful and fun.
I would like to avoid introducing students to the topic using grammar/form first.
And as I always have the same courses and english levels, I don t have much material
to teach this grammar topic. So
I need your help! Please!
Thank you
Edit: @chiaras: Ive just downloaded it THANK YOU!
Aftab: thank you! always so resourceful!. Anita: Thank you for your idea! I love everything you suggest!, ishorton: Lovely song! Sylvie: Thanks again for the links! (I´m still exploring them). Savvinka: Thank you! Lovely idea! kprichorniana: Great song!

why don t you use the song from Gwen Stephany "If I were a rich girl..." It s fun and definately gets the point across. You can also play a board soccer game giving the students cues to elaborate sentences in the second conditional. 3 correct sentences is a goal. Hope this helps... good luck! |

There s lots of stuff on this site - type second conditional into the search engine and you ll get pages of stuff.
In terms of songs, my students liked Beyonce s If I were a boy . Youtube has the video with lyrics on screen if you need it!

I also did Beyonce with my teenagers. And they absolutely love pretend-games like If you won a million dollars, what would you do; if you ended up on a desert island, who would you like to be with and why; if you were (insert a famous person), what would you do; if you were president of the country, what would you change; if you were me, what would you teach; if you were your parents, what would you teach your kids, etc. The second conditional is actually a very good topic for teenagers! |

Thank you so much for helping me out. @lshorton99 I did search for this on here first thing! :-) But I was dissapointed to find far too many grammar worksheets! I
haven t taught this grammar point for ages and I m not a big fan of introducing topics using tons of grammar explanations as I find that
too boring and not really that helpful for students to acquire the
usage of the structure. So that s why I m asking for help, I ve seen teachers here giving a*m*a*z*i*n*g ideas to teach grammar.
@ everyone, thank you for the wonderful ideas you have suggested me so far! Great links Sylvie :-)

I have a printable ws that I used with my class. It is a quiz called "How much in love are you?". You will find there questions such as "What would you do if your girl/boyfriend left you", with a final score. You could start with something like that and then make your students create a similar quiz about something they are interested in.
Have a nice evening

I also use conditional chains. I write on the board the beginning of a conditional sentence, i.e. "If I were rich,...", so the first student has to finish it. Then, the next student has to begin a new sentence using the last part of the first student s sentence. For example, if the first student said: "If I were rich, I would buy a yacht.", then the second one has to start by saying:"If I bought a yacht,...". Students link one sentence with another, making any necessary changes.
